Raspados / Minutas / Snow cones

This year we were fortunate to have just a single snow day. My son and I couldn't contain our excitement. We eagerly ventured out to embrace the snowy wonderland. While I focused on building a snowman, my son's interest waned. Undeterred, he gathered a few of his toys and began collecting snow. Kno

wing his love for colors, I retrieved paint and introduced him to "raspados" (Mexico) or "minutas" (Honduras), delightful snow cones or shaved ice treats enjoyed in our culture.

To my surprise, he dashed towards his tricycle, opened the compartment, and carefully placed the snow cones inside. Then, he grabbed his cash register and proudly declared, "I'm the ice cream man, mami!" In that short span, he learned new words, experienced a taste of our cultural treat, and connected it with familiar memories of the ice cream truck that occasionally passes by our house.
